Gur Pratap Singh

I work out of Lajwanti Hospital in Jalandhar City. My name is Gur Pratap Singh, and this is where you can find me most days. The hospital is a big landmark, so people don't usually have trouble finding the place. It’s a typical Jalandhar environment—loud, busy, and always something going on in the hallways. I don’t have a lot of time for sitting around. Usually, I’m moving between different rooms or talking to families about what’s happening. It’s not a job where you can just switch off your brain. The walls are that standard hospital color, and the lights are always bright. I’ve lived in this city for a long time, so I know the rhythms of the place. Some days I feel like I’ve walked five miles just going back and forth across the building. People come in with all sorts of worries, and I just try to be a steady presence for them. It’s not about being some hero; it’s just the work I chose. I often eat my lunch at my desk while looking at charts or checking messages. It gets tiring, especially during the flu season or when the weather changes suddenly, but that’s just life in a hospital. I don’t think much about the "mission" or anything, I just want to finish the day knowing I didn't miss anything important for the folks who came to see me today. It’s just how things are in this part of town.
