We are based at D-57 in the Anaj Mandi area of Chandpole Bazar. Since it is a grain market, there are always trucks and carts moving around outside, and the air is often filled with the smell of grains and jute bags. Our shop is where we handle the trading side of things. It is a lot of talking to people and checking prices throughout the day. The floor is usually covered with a bit of grain that has leaked out of samples. We have a few old wooden benches where people sit and talk about the market. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, mostly based on knowing people for years. We don't use much fancy technology here, just a basic computer and some old notebooks to keep track of everything. The walls are a bit dusty and the ceiling fan makes a clicking sound when it’s on the high setting. We spend our time negotiating and making sure the loads are going to the right places. It is a lot of work and it gets very dusty, so we are always coughing a little bit. We open early when the mandi starts and stay until the last deals are finished for the evening. It’s not a polished environment, but it is how things work here in Chandpole Bazar. We just do our job and go home when the day is done.
