Sweet Hair Art

This shop is tucked away at Shop No-2628 on Jai Lal Munshi Ka Rasta, right near Imli Wala Choraha in Chandpole Bazar. It is a very old part of Jaipur with narrow lanes and lots of history in every corner. The shop itself is small, fitting just a couple of people at a time. We have been working in this same spot for years, and the walls are covered with some old calendars and a few pictures of gods. It’s a bit cramped when three or four people are waiting for their turn, but nobody seems to mind the squeeze. We just talk about the weather or the price of vegetables in the market while we work. The sound of the traffic and people shouting from Chandpole Bazar is always there in the background. We use manual clippers sometimes when the power goes out and electric ones when it is steady. Being near the Imli Wala Choraha means there is always a lot of foot traffic and something to see. We don't do anything flashy or modern here. Most people just want a clean shave or a basic haircut so they look decent for their jobs. We keep the water in a plastic jug and use fresh towels for every person. It is just a modest place to get groomed. Sometimes the street dogs sleep near the door, and that’s just part of the day. We like being in this part of town.
