Silkasia Store

Our spot at C- 54/55 Gulabi Nagar is right along Ajmer Road, which is always busy. Silkasia Store has been sitting here for a good bit now. The morning sun comes through the front door and lights up all the colors on the racks. It’s actually quite nice before the dust from the road starts kicking up. We spend a lot of time folding and refolding things because customers like to touch everything. That’s just how it is. We don't have any big speeches about what we do. We just sell what we have and try to be helpful if someone asks a question. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit in the dark for a bit, but usually, it's back on before we get too bored. The floors are stone and stay pretty cold, which is a relief when Jaipur gets hot. We’ve got a small back room where we keep the extra stock and an old kettle for making tea. Most of our days are spent talking to regulars or trying to figure out where a certain invoice went. It’s not a high-pressure environment. We just show up, do the work, and hope the traffic on Ajmer Road isn't too bad when it's time to go home. It feels like home after all these years, even with the constant noise of the cars outside and the usual city chaos.
