Sundaram Telecom is tucked away in Balaji Market over in Shastri Nagar. It’s a small shop, maybe smaller than some people expect when they first come looking for us. I’ve got shelves lined with all sorts of things like chargers, screen guards, and those little colorful cases everyone wants these days. The market stays pretty loud most of the day, with bikes going past and other shopkeepers shouting to each other, but it’s a good spot. We’ve been in Shastri Nagar for a while, and most of the regulars come in just to get their phone recharges done or to complain about their battery life. I spend a lot of my time behind the glass counter, peeling off old screen protectors and trying to get the bubbles out of the new ones. It’s fiddly work and my eyes get tired by the evening, but it keeps the shop going. Balaji Market has a certain feel to it, and we are right in the middle of that rush. Sometimes the electricity cuts out and we just sit there in the dark for a bit talking to whoever is in the shop at the time. It’s not a big corporate store with bright lights and fancy uniforms. It is just me and some stock in a room. People know where to find us if they need a quick fix or a new SIM card. We don't have a website or anything, just this shop.
