Getting to our shop can be a bit of a puzzle if you don’t know the area. We’re tucked away in Kho Walo Ka Chowk, right on Gopal Ji Ka Rasta. It’s that spot opposite the Prahari Lock on Mahadev Johary Street. The lanes are narrow here, so you really have to watch your step with all the rickshaws and motorbikes zooming past. Our building is old, and the stairs are a bit steep, but it’s been our home for a long time. Every morning starts with the same routine of unlocking the heavy shutters and letting the dust settle. We spend most of the day just handling whatever comes through the door. It’s not always busy, but there’s always something that needs fixing or a shelf that needs restocking. We don’t really go in for anything fancy. The furniture is a bit worn out, and the lighting is just okay, but it feels like home to us. We know almost everyone on this street by name. We share tea with the guys next door and complain about the heat together. It’s a very local way of living. We don’t have a website or anything like that. If people want to see what we have, they just have to find their way through the chowk and come inside. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy enough throughout the week. We just do our best to get things right.
