Shiv Shankar Hair Dresser sits right in the Main Market area of Kot Khavda. We are situated on Tonk Road, pretty much across from the Main Lalsot point. It’s a very central spot in Chaksu, so there is always a crowd nearby. The shop is just a basic room where we do haircuts and beard trims. We’ve been here in the market for a long time. People know us as the place to go when they need a quick tidy up. There’s no air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day long. In the summer, it gets quite warm, but we keep the water spray bottles ready to keep things moving. We have a few regulars who come in every two weeks like clockwork. They sit in the same chairs and talk about the same things. It’s a friendly vibe, nothing too serious. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting lounge. You just come in, see if a chair is free, and wait on the wooden bench if it isn't. The floor is concrete and we sweep it constantly. Jaipur district is a big place, but here in Chaksu, it feels like a small village sometimes. We like it that way. We don't use any complicated equipment, just our hands and the tools we’ve had for years. It’s just an honest way to make a living in the main market. We usually take a break for lunch.
