Shalu Handicrafts is located at number 173 in Indira Bazar. We keep a lot of different things here, mostly stuff made by hand from around the region. There are wooden items, some fabrics, and small decorative bits. It’s a bit crowded inside because we try to fit as much as possible on the shelves. You have to be careful not to knock anything over when you walk in. We don’t really have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. The items come from different artisans, and sometimes they aren't perfectly identical, but that's just how handmade things are. We spend our mornings dusting off the pieces and rearranging the front display. It’s a bit of a quiet life compared to the noisy street outside. We get tourists sometimes, and local people looking for a gift for a wedding or a housewarming. We don't do any big advertising. People just see the sign and walk in. We wrap things in old newspaper or simple brown paper to keep them safe. The shop has been here for years, and the floor is a bit worn down from all the footsteps. We just enjoy being surrounded by these nice things every day. It feels like a good way to earn a living. We just keep at it and hope for the best. It is a calm place to spend the day. We like it.
