We are tucked away at 180/108 in Sector-18 of Pratap Nagar, right here in Sanganer. It is a small place filled with fabric samples and thread. We spend most of our time looking at designs and trying to get the stitching just right. Sanganer is famous for its textiles, so there is a lot of competition around, but we just focus on what we are doing. The shop is often a bit cluttered with half-finished pieces and scraps of cloth on the floor. We don't have a big window display or anything like that. It’s more of a workshop than a fancy store. Sometimes the colors of the dye don't come out exactly how we expected, so we have to try again. It can be a bit stressful when we have a lot of orders to finish by the end of the week. Most of us have been working with clothes for a long time. We like the feeling of the fabric and seeing a finished garment. It’s a lot of sitting and focused work. Sometimes the neighbors pop in for a chat while we are working, which can slow us down but we don't mind much. We don't use any high-tech gadgets, just the sewing machines and our hands. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy in the Pratap Nagar community. We just keep our heads down and keep sewing until the sun goes down. It's a quiet way to make a living.
