Ratan Hair Dresser

I have been running Ratan Hair Dresser here in Shahpura for quite some time now. The shop is located right on N H 8, so it gets pretty dusty with all the trucks and cars zooming past toward Jaipur or Delhi. Every morning, I come in and start by wiping down the mirrors and the two main chairs. It takes a while because the road grime settles on everything overnight. The shop isn't anything fancy, just a simple place where men from Rajpura and nearby spots come to get their hair cut or a quick shave. I usually keep the radio playing some old songs to drown out the noise from the highway. Most of the people who come in are regulars who have been living around here for years. We talk about the weather, the crops, or whatever is happening in the local market. By midday, it gets quite hot, especially with the sun hitting the front of the building, so the ceiling fan stays on full speed. I don't really have a big staff, just me and occasionally a nephew who helps out when things get busy on the weekends. I keep my scissors and combs in a small plastic tray and change the blades for every new person. It is a straightforward life here in this part of Jaipur. Sometimes travelers stop by because they see the sign from the road, but mostly it is just the local faces I see every day.
