About Rajasthan Leather Handicrafts – Art & Craft in Jaipur
Our shop and workspace, Rajasthan Leather Handicrafts, is tucked away at S-34 in Nagar Nigam Colony, right off Amer Road. Since we’re near the main road leading to the fort, it can get pretty loud with all the tourists and traffic passing by. The smell of leather is the first thing you notice when you walk into our place. It’s a scent that sticks to your clothes, but we don't mind it anymore. We have hides piled up in one corner and finished bags or belts hanging on the walls. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when more than two people are working at the same time. We have an old workbench that’s been scratched and dented over the years, which is where most of the cutting happens. The light from the front door is usually enough to work by during the day. We don’t have a big fancy website or anything, we just focus on the pieces we’re making right here. Sometimes neighbors from the colony stop by to chat for a bit. It’s a very local feel, and we like it that way. We spend our days stitching and checking the quality of the leather we get. It’s a slow process sometimes, but we aren't in a huge rush. It’s just how we’ve always done things here on Amer Road.
