Rajasthan Leather Handicrafts

You can find us over at S-34 in the Nagar Nigam Colony, just off Amer Road. It is a bit away from the main tourist spots, which suits us just fine. We spend our days working with leather, making things by hand like people have done around here for generations. The smell of tanned hides is pretty strong when you walk in, but you get used to it after a few minutes. We do not have a showroom with glass cases or anything like that. It is more of a workshop where tools are scattered around and there is always a project in progress on the bench. Sometimes the stitching isn't perfectly straight because a human hand did it, not a machine. We think that is okay because it shows someone actually worked on it. Our hands are usually stained with dye or a bit rough from the needles. We do not have a big team, just a couple of us who know how to cut and sew leather properly. People usually find out about us through word of mouth or by wandering into the colony by mistake. We are not trying to sell things to everyone in the world. We just make what we can and hope it lasts a long time for whoever buys it. It is hard work on the back and eyes, but seeing a finished bag or belt makes it feel worth the effort.
