Puratan Handicrafts is located over in Barket Nagar. It’s a neighborhood where everyone seems to know each other, which makes for a nice atmosphere to work in. We chose the name Puratan because we like the idea of things that have a bit of history to them, and that’s mostly what you’ll find if you step inside. The shop isn't anything spectacular to look at from the outside, just a regular storefront with a couple of windows that we try to keep clean. Barket Nagar is a lively place, especially in the evenings when everyone is out doing their shopping. We spend a lot of our time sorting through the different pieces we have. Some days are slow and we just sit around talking about the weather or what’s for lunch, and other days we are moving boxes from one side of the room to the other. There is a lot of wood and metal around here, so it usually smells a bit like a workshop. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team telling us what to do. We just open up the doors in the morning and see who stops by. The shelves are getting a bit crowded lately, but we manage to find what we need eventually. It’s a bit messy, but it’s an honest kind of mess. We’ve been in Barket Nagar long enough that we don’t really see ourselves being anywhere else.
