My shop is tucked away in Thadi Market in Mansarovar. If you know the area, you know how crowded it gets, especially in the evenings when everyone is out doing their shopping and the stalls are all open. We are at 124/224, and being near the main market means there is never a dull moment or a quiet hour. I’ve seen this market grow and change over the years. When I first started, there were fewer shops, but now it’s wall-to-wall businesses of every kind. Inside my shop, I have the usual setup. A few chairs, mirrors that I have to wipe down constantly because of the dust and humidity, and all my combs lined up on the counter. I don't do anything too fancy, just the basic cuts and shaves that people need. Mansarovar is a big residential area, so I get a lot of families coming through. I see kids growing up, coming in for their first haircut and then coming back years later as adults with their own lives. It’s a nice feeling to be part of the neighborhood like that. The shop can get pretty cramped when three or four people are waiting for their turn, so people often stand outside on the pavement and talk. I usually have the radio playing quietly in the background, mostly old songs or the news to pass the time. It’s a busy life but I’m used to the pace of Thadi Market by now.
