New Anand Gents Parlour

Our shop is at Shop No - 2 on the 100 Feet Road, which is part of Kalwad Road in Jhotwara. It is right across from Manohar Palace, so we see all the wedding processions and the lights when there is a function going on. Pandit Ji Ki Thadi is the main landmark nearby that everyone knows. The shop is one of those long, narrow spaces. We have a row of mirrors on one side and a few chairs for waiting on the other. It’s usually full of newspaper clippings and some old magazines for people to look at while they wait. The road outside is always busy with people heading towards the city or going back to the outskirts. We get a lot of dust because the road is so big, so we are always wiping down the counters with a cloth. The fan spins fast but it doesn't always cool things down enough in June. We have a small radio that plays the local station most of the time. Most of our customers are regulars who have been coming for years. They know where we keep the water and they just make themselves at home. We do a lot of shaves in the morning and more haircuts in the afternoon. It’s a basic life, just cutting hair and talking about the daily stuff happening in Jhotwara. We’ve been here a long time and everyone in the thadi knows us.
