National Medical & General Store

Our place is called National Medical & General Store and you can find us at Chaura Rasta, right near Chaardarwaja 201. This part of the city is always crowded with people walking and rickshaws honking their horns. Inside the shop, the shelves go all the way up to the ceiling. We have medicine on one side and general items like soaps, toothpaste, and snacks on the other. It gets a bit cramped when more than three people come in at once. We spend our time looking for specific boxes of tablets or counting out change for someone buying a packet of biscuits. The light inside is a bit dim because the buildings are so close together on this street. We have a small fan that hums all day long to keep the air moving. Every morning, we spend an hour dusting the glass counters because the street dust gets into everything. It’s a fast-paced environment where someone is always asking for a cold drink or a bandage. We know a lot of the neighbors who stop by every week for their regular supplies. There isn't much quiet time until we start pulling down the metal shutters late at night. The tile floor is a bit worn out from all the feet walking over it over the years. We just keep things moving and make sure we have what people are looking for when they walk through the door in this busy area.
