Running Mr X Calculator & Telephones inside Jayanti Market at shop number 15 keeps us pretty busy. It is a small space but we have managed to fit a lot of equipment into the glass counters. Most of the day is spent showing people how different calculator models work or testing the ringer on a new telephone set. You can hear the constant noise of the market outside, people shouting and scooters honking. We sit on small stools behind the counter and wait for customers to come in. The lighting inside is a bit bright because of the fluorescent tubes, but it helps us see the small buttons. We keep a diary for all the orders and a small radio plays in the corner to pass the time. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we drink a lot of tea from the stall across the lane. People come in looking for specific parts or just to see what new models have arrived. It is a loud, crowded place to work but we are used to the rhythm of Jayanti Market now.
