Monika Hair Dresser is out in Shahpura, right along the Delhi Highway. It is a busy spot because of all the traffic moving between Jaipur and Delhi. Being located here means we see a lot of different people. Some are just passing through and need a quick tidy-up before they reach the city, while others are locals who have lived in Shahpura their whole lives. The shop is a simple place. We have some older chairs that are still comfortable enough, and the mirrors have seen a lot of years. The noise from the highway is something you just get used to after a while. It is a constant sound of trucks and cars going by. We don't have any of the modern equipment you might see in the big malls. It is mostly just scissors, combs, and a steady hand. The summer months are the hardest because of the heat, so we usually have the door wide open. Dust comes in from the road, so there is a lot of sweeping to do throughout the day.
