Mona Handicraft is based at G 295 in the Sitapura Industrial Area. It’s a large shed-like building where we spend most of our days. There is no air conditioning, just a few big ceiling fans that hum all day long. We work with our hands mostly, so there is always a bit of a mess. Scraps of material and sawdust cover the floor by the time the evening rolls around. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we make, they just come into the workshop and look around. The Sitapura area is full of factories, so it's always loud with the sound of machinery and trucks. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while. My brother and I run the place along with a small crew of local workers. We eat our lunch together on a big wooden table in the back. It’s a very practical environment. We don’t use any marketing jargon or try to sound like a big company. We just focus on making things properly. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread or a specific tool and have to wait for the delivery truck. That’s just part of life in the industrial area. The walls are covered in notes and sketches of different designs we’ve worked on over the years. It’s an honest living and we enjoy the process of creating things from scratch.
