Mathematics Study Centre

Mathematics Study Centre is tucked away behind Chandi Ki Taksal at Subhash Chowk. It’s an old part of Jaipur, so the streets are narrow and you can always hear the sounds of the market. Bakshi Bhawan is where we are, at number 631. The building is quite old and has that specific smell of paper and stone. We spend a lot of our time drawing triangles and circles on the board. Sometimes the chalk dust gets everywhere, even on our clothes. We have these heavy wooden desks that have been here for a long time. They have names carved into them by students from years ago. It’s not a fancy setup at all. We have one small fan that makes a clicking noise when it’s on the highest speed. Most people find us by asking around because the sign outside is a bit faded from the sun. We start early in the morning when the air is still cool. By noon, it gets quite bright inside because of the large windows facing the street. We don’t use much technology here, just pens and paper mostly. There is a lot of scratching of pencils on notebooks all day long. Sometimes we have to move the cupboards around to make more space for the new books that arrive. It’s a simple life here, just numbers and logic every single day without any fuss.
