Maruti Sandal Arts

Maruti Sandal Arts is tucked away in Chandpole Bazar, specifically on the Rasta Bagroo Walon Ka. We are right near the first cross, at number 840. If you have ever been to this part of the city, you know how narrow and busy the lanes can be. Our workshop is small, and it is usually filled with the scent of sandalwood and the sound of small tools carving away. We have been working with wood here for a long time. It is a craft that takes a lot of focus, and we often spend the whole day hunched over a single piece. The dust gets everywhere, on the floor and on our clothes, but that is just part of the job. People find their way to us when they are looking for something specific or just want to see how things are made. We don't have a big sign or a fancy entrance, just our workspace where the actual carving happens. The bazar is always full of life, with people pushing carts and shouting, but inside our doors, things are a bit slower. We just keep working on our designs, one bit at a time. It is honest work that requires steady hands. We are just a few people keeping a tradition going in this old part of the town. It gets hot in the summer, but the wood stays cool and the work keeps us busy every day.
