Mahesh Hair Dresser

If you're near the Jhag Bus Stand in Bagru, you've probably seen Mahesh Hair Dresser. We've been sitting here for a good long time now. The bus stand is always noisy with people coming and going from Jaipur, but we like the energy of the crowd. Our shop is pretty basic. We've got the chairs, the mirrors, and enough light to see what we're doing. It's a small space, so it gets warm in the summer, but we keep the fan going all day. People stop by while they're waiting for their bus or after they get off work. We see a lot of different faces every day. Some are locals from around Bagru and others are just passing through the village. I usually start the day by cleaning the mirrors and getting the towels ready. It's just me and a couple of others working here. We don't use any of those expensive gadgets you see in the city malls. We stick to the old ways because that's what we know best. Sometimes the tea stall next door brings us some chai and we take a quick break between customers. It's a good way to spend the afternoon. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast, so someone is always sweeping up. We don't have a big sign out front, just the name written on the wall. Most people find us just by walking past. It’s a steady kind of job.
