Ashoka Saree Centre

Ashoka Saree Centre is right there opposite Hawa Mahal. It is a very famous spot, so we see a lot of people every single day. There are tourists taking photos of the palace and locals just going about their business. The traffic is always moving outside. Sometimes the noise of the horns gets to be a lot. Inside the shop, things are a bit calmer. We have sarees everywhere. They are stacked on the shelves and draped over the counters. We spend a lot of time folding them back up after showing them to someone. It is a lot of folding, honestly. The light comes in through the front windows and hits the colors of the fabric. Opposite Hawa Mahal is a busy place to be. We see the sun move across the palace walls while we work. Ashoka Saree Centre is a simple shop. We don't have fancy air conditioning or anything like that. We just have fans and open doors. People come in from the heat to look around. We talk to them, show them what we have, and that is about it. It is honest work. Sometimes we stand out front just to watch the crowds. It is never quiet here, but we like it that way. You get used to the energy of being right in the middle of everything. We just stay busy with the sarees and keep the shelves full.
