If you go to Johri Bazar and look for Katla Purohit Ji, you will find us at Purohit Bhawan. We are on the first floor. Madhuri Saree has been in this market for a very long time. It’s a busy place with lots of people walking by and scooters everywhere. The stairs up to our floor are a bit steep and narrow. Inside, it’s just piles and piles of sarees. We spend the whole day unfolding and folding fabric for customers. It’s hard on the back, but it’s what we do. Johri Bazar is famous for a reason, and being part of it feels right. We know the other shopkeepers around here. Sometimes we share tea and talk about how the market is doing. We don’t have fancy lights or a big showroom. It’s just the sarees and us. People come here because they know we have a good variety. We try to keep things simple. Dealing with colors and different silks is the main part of the day. The heat in the katla can be something else in May. We use old fans to keep the air moving. It’s a traditional way of doing business. No big sales pitches, just showing what we have. Customers usually spend a long time deciding, and we don’t mind. We’ve seen kids grow up and bring their own families here. It’s a local spot through and through.
