Lakshmi Pisai Kendra is at shop number 228 over by Jaamla Chowk. If you’re looking for us, we’re quite close to the Kumari Seleja Kothi, which is a big house that everyone knows. Being near the chowk means it’s always loud with people talking and horns honking, but we’ve gotten used to the noise over the years. Our main thing is grinding grains, so the machines are running for most of the day. It gets a bit warm inside, especially during the summer months, but we have a couple of old fans that keep the air moving well enough. The floor is always covered in a fine layer of flour dust, no matter how often we sweep it up. It’s just the nature of the business. I run the place with my son, and we’ve had the same regulars coming in for a long time now. They bring their sacks of grain, we have a quick chat about the weather or the local news, and then they go on their way. We don't have any big signs or bright lights. The paint on the door is peeling a little at the bottom, but the machines work perfectly, and that’s what actually matters for us. We just try to keep things moving and make sure everyone gets their flour back in a decent amount of time.
