If you want to find Kotawala'S Creation, you have to go into Johari Bazar and look for 1226 Kotawallon Ki Gali. It’s inside Gopal Ji Ka Rasta, which is one of those narrow lanes where the history of the city really feels alive. You can’t drive a car in here; it’s strictly for walking or maybe a very brave scooter rider. The buildings are old and close together, which keeps the sunlight out of the alley most of the day. Our space is tucked away in one of these traditional structures. It’s cool inside the thick walls, which is a blessing when the desert heat hits the city. We’ve been operating from this same spot for a long time. It’s a small shop feel, where everyone knows everyone else in the lane. You can hear the neighbors talking and the sounds of the market just a short walk away. We work on our creations in the back rooms where it’s a bit more private. It’s not a polished storefront with bright lights. We use simple lamps and sit on the floor or small stools. There’s always the smell of incense and old paper in the air. We don't bother with fancy advertising because word of mouth in the Bazar has always been enough for us. It’s a slow and steady way of doing things, the old way. We just keep the tradition going in our own little corner of the city.
