Working at 169 Bapu Bazar means you’re always in the middle of everything. Jitendra Handicraft has been in this market for a long time, and the noise of people haggling outside never really stops. We spend our days surrounded by wood, fabric, and tools. There’s usually dust on everything, no matter how much we clean. It’s just the nature of making things by hand. The shop isn't organized like a mall store; things are stacked where they fit. We’re often in the back working on a piece while customers wander in through the front. Sometimes we’re so busy with a chisel or a brush that we don’t notice someone right away. It’s a bit cramped in here with all the inventory, but that’s how Bapu Bazar is. We don't have a fancy website or a secretary to answer phones. If you call, you’re probably talking to the same person who was just sanding down a table leg or painting a small box. It’s physical work and our hands usually show it by the end of the week. We’ve seen the market change over the years, but we’re still here in the same spot, doing what we know how to do. It is simple work that takes a lot of time and patience. We just keep at it because it’s what we’ve always done right here at number 169.
