We are located at A-76 in Verndavan Vihar, which is right off Kalvar Road in Jhotwara. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city center but it is quieter here which I like. Gupta Handicraft is basically a workshop where we spend our days making things by hand. There is a lot of dust from the materials and the sound of tools is pretty constant from morning until sunset. We don't have a big showroom or anything like that. People usually just come by the house to see what we are working on. My father started this and now I help run things. We have a small courtyard where we lay things out to dry or just sit and take a break when the sun is too high. The neighborhood is mostly families so we know everyone who walks past the gate. Sometimes the local kids come by to see what we are making. It is a very hands-on job and my back usually aches by the end of the day. We don't use big machines much, mostly just our hands and some old tools that have been around for years. It is slow work but that is just the way handicrafts go. We try to keep things organized but the workspace always ends up messy again by noon. That is just part of the process I guess. Kalvar Road has changed a lot lately with more shops opening up around us but our little corner stays the same.
