Jhandemery Fashion

Out here at 10, Sitarampuri, things stay pretty busy. We’re located off Old Ramgarh Road, near Amer Road, so there’s always something happening nearby. Jhandemery Fashion is where we spend our hours, surrounded by fabrics and sketches and a lot of thread. It’s not the most organized place in the world, to be honest. There’s always a pile of something that needs sorting, and the sewing machines have a specific sound that you just get used to after a while. We aren't some high-end boutique with marble floors. Our floors are concrete and we usually have scraps of cloth scattered around by noon. We’re just a small group of people who know how to put things together. Some of us have been doing this for decades, while others are still learning the ropes. We drink a lot of chai and talk about our families while we work. It’s a comfortable atmosphere, even when we’re rushing to get an order out the door. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just make clothes and try to make sure they look right. The neighborhood is full of hardworking folks like us, so we feel right at home here. It’s a bit dusty and the commute can be long, but we wouldn’t have it any other way right now.
