Hawamahal Saree Emporium

Our shop is located right near the Hawa Mahal. It’s a famous spot, so tourists are always walking by, but we also have plenty of locals who come in. Hawamahal Saree Emporium isn't a massive store. It’s more of a traditional place where we keep everything stacked on shelves. We don't have mannequins in the windows or anything like that. We prefer to just show people the fabric directly. Most of the day is spent pulling down heavy bundles and showing the patterns. It can get quite tiring for the arms. The building is old and the floors are a bit uneven, but it has been our home for a long time. When the weather is nice, the breeze from the street is good, but in the summer it gets quite stuffy inside. We usually have a few people working here at once. We aren't trying to be the biggest saree shop in the city. We just want to stay open and keep doing what we've been doing. Sometimes we have tea with the customers while they look at different colors. It's a slow way of doing things, but it works for us. We know the history of the area well because we see it every single day. Being near such a landmark means there is always something happening outside. It’s never a boring day at the shop and we plan to stay right here for years.
