Indian Crafts Bazar

Our place, Indian Crafts Bazar, is right near Jalmahal on Amer Road. It’s a very busy spot with lots of people always passing by on their way to see the palace. We have been sitting here for quite a long time now. The shop is filled with all sorts of things made by local people from the villages nearby. We’ve got fabrics, small statues, and metalwork everywhere you look. It can get pretty dusty because of the wind coming off the road, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the glass cases and the floors. We don't have fancy lights or a big showroom. It’s just a simple shop where things are piled up in the corners. Sometimes it’s hard to even walk through the aisles without bumping into a wooden elephant or a stack of rugs. We talk to the artisans regularly and they bring us whatever they’ve been working on that week. We don’t have a big corporate plan or anything. We just buy what looks good and try to sell it to anyone who stops in for a look. The summers here are really hot, so we usually sit near the front door to catch any breeze from the street. It’s a slow pace of life most days, except when a big group of tourists arrives all at once. We just enjoy the work and the people we meet along the way. It’s a local business and we try to keep it honest for everyone who walks through the door.
