Our place is out in Village Balekhan, which is near Govindgarh and the Anatpura police station. We are right off NH-52 on Sikar Road in Chomu. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city, so the commute takes some time every morning. The area is quite dusty because of all the construction and the heavy trucks passing by on the highway. We have a fairly large shed here where all the tableware is kept. Because we are in a village area, sometimes the power goes out for an hour or two, and we just have to wait it out or use the generator if it’s really necessary. The ground around the building is mostly dirt and gravel, which gets quite muddy when it rains during the monsoon season. Inside, the floors are concrete and we have long rows of tables where everything is sorted and packed. It’s a lot of manual work and the staff usually comes from the nearby villages. We don’t have any fancy signs or big glass windows, just a heavy metal gate and a small office room near the entrance. The air is a lot different out here than in Jaipur, and you can see the open fields behind our back wall. It’s a quiet spot most of the time, except for the sound of the traffic on the Sikar Road. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we try to get most of the heavy lifting done early.
