Hindraj & Sons

Our family has been running Hindraj & Sons for a long time now. We are located in Gali Gujar Wala, inside the Katla Purohit Ji area of Johari Bazar. If you know Jaipur, you know that Johari Bazar is the heart of everything. Our shop is old, with thick walls and a very heavy wooden door that we have to struggle with every morning. We don't have fancy displays or bright neon signs. We mostly sit on the floor on white cushions, which is how my father and his father did it before me. We deal with traditional items, and people come to us because they know we’ve been here forever. The lane outside is so narrow that two people can barely walk past each other, and it always smells like incense and old stone. We spend our days drinking tea and talking to the regular customers who have been coming to us for decades. Sometimes we don't even sell anything for hours, we just sit and talk about the news or the weather. It’s a slow kind of business, not like the big malls where everyone is in a rush. We take our time with everything. My sons are starting to help out more now, learning how to handle the stock and how to talk to the people who come in. It’s just a small piece of the old city that hasn't changed much over all these years we've been here.
