Hasth Kala Art & Craft

We are over at C-82 Indira Bazar, right on Prithviraj Road in the C-Scheme area. Hasth Kala Art & Craft is basically our second home. We spend way more time here than anywhere else, surrounded by wood, metal, and whatever else we are working with that week. The shop is right in a busy part of town, so there is always noise from the street, but we’ve gotten used to it. We make all kinds of traditional items. It’s the kind of stuff you can’t really get from a big factory. Each piece has its own little quirks because we do it all by hand. Sometimes a tool breaks or we run out of a specific material, and we have to go hunt for it in the market, which adds to the day. We aren't polished business people with suits; we usually have paint or dust on our clothes by noon. We like it when someone walks in and asks how something is made. We’ll show them the process, even the parts that aren't very pretty. It’s just about being real with people. We’ve been at this C-Scheme location for years and have seen the street change a lot, but we just keep doing our crafts. It’s steady, quiet work that keeps us going. Nothing more to it than that. We just enjoy the smell of the workshop and the feeling of making something useful out of raw materials.
