Handicraft & Saree Emporium

Down here on Ajmer Road in Jaipur, we have our little place called Handicraft & Saree Emporium. We are located right at Ganesh Nagar, near that big 200 Feet Bypass. It is a noisy spot with all the traffic going past, but it keeps things interesting. Inside, we have mostly sarees and different bits of local handicrafts that people like to pick up. My family has been doing this for a while, and the shop is usually full of colorful fabrics piled up on the counters. We do not really do fancy decorations or big window displays. Instead, we just show people whatever we have in the back if they ask for something specific. Jaipur gets really hot in the summer, so we keep the fans running all day while we fold and unfold the silk and cotton pieces. Customers usually come in after work or on the weekends when they are heading out of the city via the bypass. It is a lot of work keeping track of all the different patterns and styles, especially when new stock arrives from the weavers. We just try to keep things simple and talk to whoever comes through the door like a regular neighbor. Sometimes we run out of space for all the boxes, so things get a bit messy, but that is just part of running a shop. It is a quiet life for the most part, just dealing with cloth and crafts.
