You’ll find Handicraft Haveli over in the Gujar Ghati area, not too far from the Air Force station on Amer Road. It’s a busy part of town because of all the tourists heading toward the forts, but our little corner is a bit more grounded. We have a lot of different things gathered here, from small trinkets to larger pieces that take up a lot of floor space. The building itself is older, and the walls are thick, which is nice when the Jaipur heat gets to be too much in the summer. We don't have a very organized system for how things are displayed. If we find a spot that’s empty, we put something new there. It gives the place a bit of a crowded feel, but people seem to like poking around. We spend our mornings dusting everything off because the road outside kicks up a lot of grit. My uncle started this place a long time ago, and we’ve just kept it going the same way he did. We don't bother with fancy lighting or air conditioning; we just leave the doors open and let the breeze come through when it can. Sometimes we sit outside on stools when it’s quiet and watch the traffic go by on Amer Road. It’s a simple way to spend the day, and we like being part of the history of this neighborhood.
