Ahinsa Sarees

You can find our shop over at Haldia House, which is right near the Dinesh Bhojnalya in that crowded area of Haldiyon Ka Rasta. We are up on the first floor in shops 101 and 102. It is a bit of a climb up the stairs when you are carrying heavy bundles of sarees, but we are used to it by now. The space is usually filled with piles of fabric and we spend most of our mornings unfolding things and then folding them back up after people have looked through them. It gets quite dusty sometimes because the street outside is always moving with people and carts. We have a couple of small wooden stools for people to sit on while they look at the different colors. It is not a big corporate store with air conditioning that works all the time. Sometimes it gets a bit stuffy in the middle of the day. We have been in this spot for a while and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but the sarees are what people really come to see anyway. There is always the smell of food coming up from the bhojnalya downstairs, which usually makes us hungry before it is even lunchtime. We just keep the stock organized as best as we can and wait for our regulars to drop in. It is a simple shop and we don’t try to make it something it isn't. We just show what we have.
