About Gurukripa Arts & Handicraft – Art & Craft in Jaipur
If you’ve ever walked down Hawa Mahal Road, you’ve probably passed by us. Gurukripa Arts & Handicraft is right there at number 121, directly opposite the old SBBJ building. It’s a very old part of town, so there’s always noise from the street and tourists walking by to see the monument. Our shop is filled with all sorts of things we’ve collected or made over time. There’s a lot of dust because the doors stay open to the street, and we’re constantly moving items around to make room for new stock. It’s not a polished showroom; it’s more of a working space where things are piled up. We spend a lot of time talking to people who come in just to look around. Some days are very hot, and we just sit under the fan waiting for the evening breeze. The building itself has its own quirks, like the uneven floors and the way the light hits the front in the afternoon. We’ve been here long enough that the local rickshaw pullers know us by name. We don’t do any big advertising or anything like that. We just put our things out on display and wait to see who stops by. It’s a simple way to run a business. My hands are usually a bit dirty from handling the crafts, but that’s just how it is when you work with these materials every day. We just stay open until the sun goes down and the crowd thins.
