Gulab Chand Sharma

This is the shop of Gulab Chand Sharma, located at S 52 in the Govind Marg Shopping Centre in Adarsh Nagar. It’s a bit of a tucked-away spot, but people who live nearby know where to find us. The shopping center has seen better days, and the paint is peeling in some places, but it has a lot of character. Inside the shop, it’s mostly just Gulab Chand and maybe one helper. It’s a place where things are done the old-fashioned way. We don't have a computer system for everything; a lot of it is kept in physical registers. The shelves are packed with all sorts of things, and sometimes you have to move three things just to find one. It’s a bit dusty, and the lighting isn't the brightest, but it’s home for us. We spend a lot of the day chatting with customers who have been coming here for decades. It feels more like a community spot than a business sometimes. We don't do any big advertising or try to pull people in from far away. If you need something and you're in Adarsh Nagar, you just stop by. There’s a tea vendor right outside who brings us a cup every morning and afternoon. It’s a slow pace of life, and we’re fine with that. We just keep the doors open and see who comes in today. We might close a bit early if there’s a festival or if the rain gets too heavy for anyone to be out.
