This shop has been in the family for a long time now. You can find us at Shop No. 217 in Kishanpole Bazar. My name is on the sign along with my brother's. It’s a narrow place, packed floor to ceiling with stock. If you’ve ever walked through the bazar, you know how crowded it gets with the rickshaws and the tourists. We open early, usually around nine, and start moving boxes around to make space. There isn't much space to sit, just a couple of wooden stools near the counter. We sell a bit of everything that people in the neighborhood might need. Dealing with suppliers takes up most of my morning. I spend a lot of time on the phone or writing things down in a thick ledger book. We don't use computers for everything because the old way still works for us. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to move everything out. My nephew helps out after school sometimes when he isn't busy. It’s loud and dusty in the bazar, but we like being right in the middle of it. Customers come in and we chat about the weather or the price of goods. It’s just a regular day-to-day business. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the years, but our shop stays pretty much the same as it always was.
