We've been at 51, Hawa Mahal Road for quite a while now. My father started Gems 'N' Arts because he liked working with stones and jewelry pieces. We mostly just spend our days sorting through different items and helping people who walk in off the street. It's a very busy road, especially with all the tourists heading to the palace. Sometimes the shop gets a bit dusty from the traffic outside, but that's just how it is in this part of town. We aren't a big fancy showroom with bright lights. It's just a small, crowded space where we keep our collection. Most of the stuff we have comes from local sources around the city. If you're walking down the road, you'll probably see us near the corner. We keep odd hours sometimes if there's a lot of work to finish up in the back room. It's nothing fancy, just honest daily work. We try to keep things organized but sometimes the drawers get a bit messy when we are busy. It's a family thing, really. My nephew helps out on the weekends when he isn't busy at school. We have some old wooden benches for people to sit on while they look at things. We don't do much advertising, so people usually just find us by accident. The light in the shop isn't great in the evenings, but we make do with what we have.
