Gem Plaza

You can find us at Khetan Bhawan on M.I. Road. It’s one of the busier streets in Jaipur, so there’s always something going on outside our door. We’ve been in this building for quite a while. Gem Plaza is basically what the name says – we deal with stones of all kinds. The shop isn't as big as some of the massive showrooms further down the road, but we like it that way. It makes it easier to keep track of everything. We spend a lot of our time looking at small stones through those little magnifying loupes. It can be hard on the eyes after a few hours of work. The interior is simple, just some glass counters and chairs for people to sit while they look at what we have. M.I. Road is great for business, but the noise from the traffic never really stops during the day. We’ve gotten used to it though. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we have to use the back-up, which is just part of living and working here. We’re not into high-pressure sales or anything like that. We just show people what we have and let them decide. It’s mostly regular customers and their friends who come by. We keep a fridge with cold water for anyone who stops in because the heat can be brutal in Jaipur. It’s a straightforward shop, and we just try to be honest about what we’re selling to people.
