Gaurav Gents Parlour

Down on Heera Pura Road, in the Sanjay Nagar part of DCM, we have our gents parlour. It’s a simple place for men to get their hair cut or a shave. The road outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, and it’s dusty when it’s dry, but that’s just how Jaipur is. We have a couple of chairs and a big mirror that’s seen better days. There is a small television in the corner, but we usually just keep the news on or some cricket if there’s a match playing. The neighborhood guys come in and sit for a while, even if they don’t need a haircut, just to chat and pass the time. We’ve got a few old combs and some scissors that we keep sharp. It’s not a place for anything fancy or complicated. We just do the basic stuff that guys need. I usually open up in the morning and stay until late evening. The light outside the shop flickers a bit, but we haven't got around to fixing it yet because we stay so busy. DCM is a working-class area, so people want things done quickly and without any fuss. We give them a towel and some water, do the job, and they are on their way. It’s a steady routine that we’ve followed for a long time now. Sometimes my brother helps out when it gets busy on Sundays. We just keep the shop running.
