We are tucked away in Msb Ka Rasta, over in Johri Bazar at the 5th Cross. If you know the old city of Jaipur, you know how narrow and crowded these lanes can get. It is a very old part of town, and Ganesh Hair Arts has been here for a long time. The shop is small, fitting just into the space we have between the other buildings. It’s often noisy outside with the shoppers and the rickshaws, but inside it’s a bit more peaceful. I have two chairs and a small bench for waiting. The walls are covered with some old calendars and a few pictures. Most of my customers are the shopkeepers from around Johri Bazar who come in during their lunch breaks. We know everyone on this street. It’s like a big family in this part of Jaipur. I don't use any of those loud electric trimmers much; I prefer the old-fashioned way with scissors and a comb. It takes a bit longer, but I think it looks better. The lighting is a bit dim because the buildings are so close together, but I’ve got a good lamp over the main chair. I’ve spent most of my life in these lanes, and I like the feeling of history here. People stop by to vent about their day or tell a joke while I work. It’s a busy life but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
