Working out of Chandpole Bazar New Anaj Mandi B-1/5 is a lot of work. The mandi is always moving, even before the sun is really up. You hear the trucks backing in and the sound of heavy bags hitting the floor. It’s dusty work, and your clothes usually show it by noon. Most of the day is spent on the phone or checking the stock that comes in. There’s a certain rhythm to the Mandi that you only get used to after working here for years. It’s not just about the trading, it’s about knowing the people who bring the goods and the ones who buy them. Over at the small desk, we keep all the papers, and it usually has a tea cup sitting on it somewhere. The area around B-1/5 gets crowded with carts and laborers moving things back and forth. You have to watch where you step. It’s a busy life but it feels right to be part of the food supply like this. Sometimes we stay late when a big shipment arrives. There isn't much time for fancy talk here. Most of the day involves dealing with the grains and the prices and the people who come by. If the weather is bad, everything slows down, but otherwise, it is a constant rush from morning until we close the shutters for the evening.
