Fun Cinemas

Working at Fun Cinemas on Jhotwara Road is a bit of a marathon some days. We are right there in the middle of Jhotwara, so there is always something going on outside. The cinema itself has been around for a while and you can probably tell if you look closely at the walls. We spend most of our time sweeping up popcorn and trying to get the sticky stuff off the floors between shows. It is not a very glamorous job, but it keeps us busy. The projectors are old but they still get the job done most of the time. When a big movie comes out, the lobby gets so packed you can barely move. We just try to keep the lines moving so nobody misses the start. We don't really have any big ideas about the magic of movies or anything like that. To us, it’s mostly about making sure the AC is working and the sound isn't too loud or too quiet. Sometimes people get upset about the prices or the wait, and we just have to deal with it. The street outside is always loud with traffic, so once you get inside the dark hall, it’s a bit of a relief. We stay until very late, usually past midnight, just making sure everything is locked up for the next day. It’s just a regular local cinema where people go to kill some time and forget about the world for a bit.
