If you walk down Jhotwara Road, you can’t really miss the cinema. It’s been a part of this area for a long time. The lobby always has that specific smell of buttery popcorn and floor cleaner. We spend a lot of our shift tearing tickets and telling people which way their screen is. The carpets are a bit worn in the spots where everyone walks, but they’re comfortable enough. Before a big movie starts, the energy gets pretty high and the noise level goes up. Then, once the show begins, everything gets quiet except for the muffled sound of explosions or music coming through the walls. We have to move fast between shows to sweep up all the spilled snacks and empty bottles. The projectors are old friends at this point, even if they need a bit of attention now and then. Sometimes the AC is a bit too cold, but people usually bring a sweater. Working here means seeing people come in happy and leave talking about the story they just watched. We don’t have fancy gold leaf or anything, just rows of seats and a big screen. It’s a local spot for a night out. We just make sure the lights go down on time and the sound is loud enough for the back row. We try to keep the lobby bright and the trash cans empty. It's just a regular cinema for local people.
