About Evergreen Handicrafts – Art & Craft in Jaipur
Down at B-9 in Shree Ji Nagar, right off Tonk Road, you will find our workshop for Evergreen Handicrafts. Durgapura is a busy area, but our little corner stays relatively focused on the work at hand. We have piles of raw materials sitting in the courtyard. It is mostly wood and some metal pieces. The artisans come in early while it is still a bit cool. You can hear the sound of carving and sanding all through the day. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most people just come into the main work area to see what we are making. The floor is always covered in sawdust. It does not matter how many times we sweep it up. It is a messy process making these things by hand. That is just how it goes. We drink a lot of water because the Rajasthan heat is no joke in the afternoons. Sometimes the neighbors pop in just to say hello or to see what new designs we are working on. We have been at this Shree Ji Nagar address for a while now. The locals know us pretty well. It is not a corporate setup with suits and ties. We wear old clothes that we don't mind getting stained. The work is slow and takes a lot of patience. We just take it one day at a time at B-9.
