D Ashok Hair Art

D Ashok Hair Art is our small spot in Khurra Brahmpuri here in Jaipur. We’ve been around this neighborhood for quite some time now, just doing what we know how to do with hair and shaves. The shop is located in the 302001 zip code area, which is a busy part of town where everyone knows everyone. It’s not a fancy place with expensive lights or anything like that. We just have our chairs, some mirrors that have seen better days, and our tools. Most of our mornings start with a cup of tea from the stall nearby before the first people walk in. Some days it is quiet and we just sit and talk about the news, but on weekends it can get a bit crowded with kids and their fathers. We don’t really do much advertising because people just know where we are by now. The fan makes a bit of a clicking sound when it’s on high, but it keeps the heat away while we work. We try to keep things clean, sweeping up the floor after every person, though the dust from the street always finds its way back in. It’s just a regular life here, working with our hands and seeing the same faces year after year. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who know the locals. If you are walking through the lanes of Brahmpuri, you’ll probably see us sitting out front when there's no work.
