Bharat Handicafts

Bharat Handicafts is right in the middle of everything on Hawa Mahal Road. You can find us in the Hawamahal Bazar area, specifically near the Goverdhan Nath Ji Temple. Being so close to the temple means we hear the prayers and the bells all day long. It gives the shop a certain kind of feeling. The bazaar is always crowded with people and cows and bikes. It can get pretty loud and chaotic outside our door, but inside we just focus on what we’re doing. The shop itself is quite small and the shelves are packed all the way to the ceiling with different items. We’ve been here for years, and the building shows its age. The walls are a bit cracked and the floor is worn down from so many people walking on it. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait to see who comes in. Sometimes it’s tourists visiting the Hawa Mahal and other times it’s locals looking for something specific. We don't try to push people to buy anything. If they like something, they buy it. My family has been doing this for a long time in this same spot. We know all the other shopkeepers around here. We drink tea together when things are slow. It’s a busy life but we wouldn't know what else to do with ourselves if we weren't here in the bazaar.
